Hi im working in AUM app for ipad where i want to be able to crossfade between two channels/tracks. I understand that i need to send a negative value (volume of course) at thesame time i send a positive to the other track. In midi designer i found a crossfader but cant set it to positive/negative. Only 0-127 or relative 0-1.

Any idea on how i should proceed?

Hi, I am planning on switching patches on my guitar processors (GX-100, GM-800, VG-800) and triggering samples on a sampler (SP-404 mk2).
I hoped to use MIDI Designer (on iPad) to send PC and CC messages to those units.

Basically, I wonder if it's possible to have a layout with:

-16 pages (8 above and 8 below) of

-16 buttons (which switch patches on GX-100,GM-800,VG-800),

-4 buttons for favorite patches (same on all 16 pages)

-4 sample trigger buttons (SP-404 mk2)

Roland TR-8S Sysex: What's what?

I have successfully "learned" two sysex messages from the device. These control one parameter of my TR-8S: the Delay Send for the "OH" instrument. When I press each button -- they're buttons for now -- they work and successfully change the parameter!

Of course I want more control, though:

LOW VALUE MESSAGE (near zero), F0 and F7 removed

41 10 00 00 00 45 12 10 59 18 10 00 01 6E

HIGH VALUE MESSAGE (near 127), F0 and F7 removed

Anyone can see that the last three bytes are varying, but...

Is the Checksum just the last byte? I think checksums are just one byte.
Is the value two bytes? I'm pretty sure this thing is 0-127, but maybe not?
How many bytes is the device ID? Since sysex isn't mentioned in the MIDI spec at all, how can I guess this or know this?

Confusion re: Sending SYSEX with L=1, L=2 ... L=16 to Access Virus C 'Multi'

The quick question is: Is there a way to send 16 channel strips using their 16 respective MIDI channels (1 per strip) from MDP2 to my Virus C?

I'm putting the 16-track Virus C "Multi" mode to use on my Virus C. I intend to set 16 channel strips in a MDP2 layout which uses a host of SYSEX commands. These commands needs to be segregated to their respective MIDI channel. I'm designating L=x to each of the 16 midi channels.

The problem is I'm only able to control CH1 on the Virus C no matter what L is set to in MDP2. No matter what MIDI channel a channel strip's items are set to broadcast, the Virus C only responds to Channel 1. I checked MIDI Monitor to ensure the respective MIDI CH is transmitted and it's not showing any channel but the L value is indeed being transmitted at the end of the SYSEX string.

I’m considering trying Midi Designer as a way to manipulate virtual instrument parameters in Cubase. Looking at the patches contributed by users there is a preponderance of old synths from Yamaha, Roland, Kawasaki, etc. There are very few more contemporary Virtual Instruments, like East West, Spitfire, Orange Tree and the like. Is this just a hobbyist tool or is it adequate for professional workflows? I’m not looking for an argument, my ignorance is deep concerning this product.

Attempt to Configure MDP Connection on M1 Mac Midi

I was able to install MDP on my M1 Mac Mini. This is my initial report. I normally use the iPad to connect MDP to Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ on my Mac via the WiFi connection using Audio Midi Network "my Session". I am attaching an image showing the iPad configuration (iPad to HW Connection). The HW Output Port connects to Network Session. Both Inputs and Outputs go through the Network Session. I normally use Midi Monitor to monitor the Midi data, but do use the MDP log on occasion.

I don't know how to configure the Mac MDP. I only get it to work in one direction or the other using IAC Driver, but not both. HW will not let me select IAC Driver for both Input and Output Ports. The image "Mac MDP to HW Connection" shows the Configuration I tried that only works in one direction. When IAC Driver is selected for the Input Port, HW responds to MDP. When IAC Driver is selected for the Output Port, MDP responds to HW. Any idea what I need to do to get it to work in both directions?

I also noticed that Labeling moves up when a button is selected. It will stay up, but when MDP is quit and restarted, it looks normal again. See image 'MDP on Mac Label Offset". Compare the Trumpet 8 label to Clarion 4. Both labels should be aligned horizontally. Several other button labels are shown offset up.

I will test out the operation when I get the Configuration Setup properly.

Does anyone know how to get Pro Tools to send and receive CC messages to MDP2?

I've been able to connect MDP2 to macOS via wifi to my iPad and I've used MIDI monitor to verify messages are being transmitted and received to and from the devices.

I have had success using LogicPro X (simply plug and play) but no luck with Pro Tools.

In Pro Tools I have enabled the 'MIDI Input Enable' to my Wifi Network but Pro Tools is not receiving or sending MIDI messages on the WiFi network.

I have MD pro with anteras layout, peavey at200, irig midi. Do i need anything else to control guitar parameters?

Hi. I’ve been using MIDI Designer Pro for forever. I like the possibilities it has for live performance use and mostly create simple controls that are easily MIDI-learned in Ableton LIVE. For instance turning a distortion pedal on in guitar rig, controlling track volume levels in LIVE, turning tracks on and off, etc. I have never properly learned though how to do seemingly easy stuff like create a button to change presets in Guitar Rig’s VST...

How would I accomplish this without extensive workarounds like creating on/off buttons that turn presents on and off? I just want to make two buttons, next and previous, that would control those literal buttons in Guitar Rig. Would I make what I typically make control change buttons (ex: channel 13 cc 52) to maybe bank change or program changes? I have no idea what these do. I’ve tried and can’t get them to interact with anything. I am hoping I missed something simple.

Also I am creating a MIDI controller for a guitar with actual buttons and potentiometers with Arduino. I’m using a esp32 board for the WiFi and the AppleMIDI library. I want to make any number of controls that can easily midi learn in LIVE. I’m thinking I’ll just decide on a number of controls, then hard code channel and cc values to each but would there be any easier or more flexible way to use MIDI Designer Pro to handle the coding?

Layout for Yamaha MODX: Change Master Effect with sysex

I am currently building a midi template for the Modx. I am using the Midi Designer Pro 2. Until now everything works as expected except for the Master Effect Type. If the Master Effect is on and a Master Effect Type is chosen, I can change through the presets with the following sysex: 43 10 7F 1C 07 30 46 02 V with V between 0-20. When I try to build the sysex string for the type with 43 10 7F 1C 07 30 46 00 V and the V with 2 Bytes, nothing happens. There is also no way to midi learn the sysex for Master Effect on/off or the turning of the wheel knob for cruising through the types. Any ideas?

I'm using MidiFire to route MIDI data from hardware sources to various virtual instruments on the iPad.

I want to use Midi Designer for two purposes: 1) Send scene changes to MF (on channel 16). 2) Send control data through MF to the virtual instruments.

In MD config I selcted MF as a destination (white with a check mark). Scene changes are then received by MF, however MD is shown as not available in MF and control data is not received.

If I enable MD initiated virtual MIDI Out, control changes are received by MF but the virtual instruments receive the control changes even if they are not routed to them by MF. I assume that MD is establishing a direct connection which bypasses MF.

I'm not sure whether this is issue with MD or MF, or something I'm doing wrong.

Would there be any way to use MIDI Designer to control OBS?

How to control the order (sequence) of midi data CC messages

I Setting: I'm developing the Boss katana amplifier MDP2 layout https://mididesigner.com/qa/7079/layout-boss-katana-f-w-2-04-primova-midx-20-preset-version and this amp has it's own Idiosyncrasies when it comes to handling midi data.

Midi data transfer is not bi-directional in this layout and when activating effects and creating presets the sound sometimes will change and it's trial-and-error process to deduce what's going on.

For example: when activating a slicer effect you have to send CC data to activate the effect but also the effect-block (boost/mod section), select the boost or mod section and turn the effect On. So to make sure this happens you have to send 4 CC 's to the amp before you start tweaking with the rate or patterns of the slicer effect. We need MDP2 to send this in one press or in a preset. I discovered that the order of sending is crucial to get a reliable response of the amp without volume jumps, other effects turning on, etc.

When creating a supercontrol and a bunch of sub controls I tried to have:

1 supercontrol (preset knob) ----> toggle button (supercontrol) ---> 4 CC messages (Toggle buttons sub controls)

-----> knob (patterns) subcontrol

-----> knob (trigger sense) subcontrol

-----> knob (rate) subcontrol

-----> knob (directmix) subcontrol

-----> knob (level) subcontrol

I figured I had to send first the ON/OFF CC data so in the menu of the supercontrol I dragged these CC messages to the top of the list to send.

(Menu of supercontrol knob —-> relationships——> subcontrols)

This didn't work out (I found out) BECAUSE there was an extra supercontrol between the supercontrol and the 4 toggle buttons. I just could not get the CC data in the order I wished to send.

Therefore I experimented with a flatter architecture/design and used knobs for al CC data, without a supercontrol between, and things worked out fine. I discovered it's about the architecture of the layout. Thinking about architecture I figured it was better to separate these toggle buttons (ON/OFF effect) and make it even simpler. So now I end up with :

1 Supercontrol (Toggle Button (ON/OFF) -------> 4 subcontrol toggle buttons (ON/OFF)

1 supercontrol (Preset knob) -------> 4 subcontrol knobs

Hope this helps when you have questions about creating the correct order of sending CC events.

I've recently bought a TG-500 sound module, and I have attempted to make it communicate with my controller (Arturia) and Macbook (with Logic Pro). But for some reason this seems to be a pretty complicated thing, and maybe it's simply not possible to make it work the way I wish to.

In my search for alternatives I came across the layout for the TG-500, which is to be controlled by iOS devices. It's not my first choice, but I want to look into this further. I'm trying to picture the way all various components are connected. So, an iPad is connected to a TG-500 sound module via a MIDI-interface: Okay, this is clear. But how does the keyboard controller fit in? And most importantly: Is there a way to guide this setup to a DAW workspace on my Macbook, or should I create an in-between apps link between the layout and Garageband for iPad?

I wanna trigger them with my pedal board (that sends note on messages), as a supercontrol in momentary fashion.On pedal board page it receives the message but doesn’t transmit to mdp control page unless I change its midi property to toggle but that kills the purpose which I don’t wanna step on few times to switch the articulations.When I use my finger on pedal board page to trigger the supercontrol ,that triggers the keyswitches the way I want.

Hi there. I recently tried out MIDI Designer on a friend's iPad using my app store account. I turned on the automatic cloud backup IAP feature and successfully linked with my Dropbox.

After setting up MIDI Designer on my own iPad, I can't seem to actually download or access those files. I SEE all of the layout / page files in the main MIDI Designer Dropbox directory, and I do have a separate folder for each iPad containing their respective config files. But, when I click "Load Layout" from the configuration page or "Load Page" from the page editor, my files are nowhere to be found. And I see no option to "restore" from a backup or whatnot. I tried moving the files into the iPad-specific directory... no luck.

The heck am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I got midi designer loaded with the enzo Meris template ( v2.0) and an I rig midi 2 connected to the Meris via a Lehle midi cable ( SGoS Din-TRS ). The pedal doesn't respond to any change made on the app, although I notice the blue light of the i rig midi flashing. Tired of messing around with hardware midi controllers for many reasons to control AUM and synths in my iPad. I’m looking into this app and Lemur. Can I use midi designer on my iPhone to control parameters in an AUM session. Synths within AUM - troublemaker, zeeon, iSem, etc. Also controls in AUM like volumes, transport, and mutes. Again I’d like to build a template on my iPhone to control my iPad with a setup like mentioned above. I do have a lightning to USB adapter. Finally, any insight on what midi designer offers over lemur?

How do I Parse SysEx dumps with the Stream Byter plugin for MIDI Designer?

Using the Stream Byter plug gives you the ability to parse Sysex dumps. Here I’ll break down an example of how I set up Stream Byter to update my iPad layout from Sysex Dumps from the Meris Enzo.
  You will need to know what the incoming Sysex data means to be able to write rules to change the iPad, so a map of the sysex messages is helpful. The Sysex data will vary based on the device you are using. I didn’t have a map except for the first numbers listed on the meris I/O manual.   Fortunately the controls were in logical order once I found which byte correlated to the first knob.The way I determined what each sysex byte controlled is by 1. Opening the MIDI Log 2. sending a sysex dump 3. changing one setting on the pedal and saving that preset 4. Sending another sysex dump and finding the location of the number that changed in the MIDI log.

Here is an example of my rules:

Breakdown: Messages are written in hexadecimal so it is helpful to have a converter when writing these rules.

M## represents the location of each byte counting from 0. The Sysex dump for my guitar pedal sends a total of 39 2 digit messages.

IF M01 == 00 20 10 06 #The sysex message starts with F0 00 20 10 06. We want to start at M01, the second byte number because 00 20 10 is the meris product id and 06 is channel 7 (the channel I have the Enzo set to). So these messages will send whenever a sysex dump from a meris product on channel 7 is detected.
SND B6 10 M9 - #This is sending in whatever is at M9(10th SysEx byte number) to Channel 7(B6) and CC#(10) for the first knob since I know that the number at M9 displays the Pitch setting of the Enzo and Channel 7 CC 10 is the control for the Pitch knob.   And just do that for each control you want to update.

Akai Miniak with Layout Not Controlling Parameters

Hi, I was thrilled to find a way to control the Akai Miniak from an iPad Pro with this template by Landschall:

But I can't get it to control the synth; moving the controls in MDP2 doesn't have any effect. The iPad midi connection is working, as I can play soft synths on the iPad with the Miniak's keyboard and pitch/mod wheels. The Miniak's config menu is set to ALL midi channels, Program change send/receive is ON, Store Protect is OFF. It seems there was never a firmware update from Akai; it's running the original (and only) version 1.0.

I'm using a "cheap" USB-to-din midi interface (with the Apple CCK, of course). Maybe that's the problem?

How do I set the "checksum" value in MD menu "Sysex Properties" correctly for the GP-10?

I can select the following; but these are not working:

None, Roland, AXE FX II, Roland Two bytes Model ID, Roland Three-byte Model ID

To select sounds on devices with more than 128 memories, the Bank Select command (MIDI Controller / Control Change) has been introduced.
This allows 16384 banks of 128 programs (2,097,152 sounds !!) to be addressed, which would certainly suffice for the next future.
The Bank Select command is a controller and is divided as a controller in MSB / LSB (C-No.0 = MSB, C-No.32 = LSB).

At the Moment    Channel - CC is 1-32 (Bank Select LSB)

Clip Launch Buttons That Mimic APC

I am able to use button groups with supercontrols to mimic Ableton's session view for launching clips. I'm wondering if it's possible to set them up so that when I select a new clip, that button will flash in Midi Designer the same way it does within Ableton, and then stay lit when the clip actually launches(I basically want to mimic the functionality of an APC mini or APC 40, etc..)

Problem recording midi notes in Cubase

Hi there,

I've made a simple drumpad design for use with Cubase. When I try to record midi notes with the pads, all the notes are recorded at the same time on top of each other.

It's working fine in Ableton and Logic though.

I'm connecting with the Music IO app.

Any idea what is causing this?

Can anyone help me figure out how to control the volume of a single midi note with my Roland TD-9 drum module?

I'm not that well versed in MIDI. I just want to set up MD to be able to adjust volume for my kick drum, snare, toms and rims. If you already have a layout for the Roland TD-9 that you'd like to share, that would be great, too!

MDXG with Yamaha PSR-E453?

I have the mdxg sound set recorder on iPad, I've connected my iPad Air 2 with iOS 10.2 to my new Psr Yamaha keyboard using camera connection kit. Now, I also have Garagebans and Galileo plus others and all work perfectly well. This app don't or I'm doing something wrong, I've asked the question on q&a and was told that it only works with Yamaha gear !!!! My keyboard is the latest YAMAHA Psr model. When I depress the mdxg app keyboard sound is heard only from the iPad but not through the Yamaha however when I depress the Yamaha keys they also depress the app keys but no sound. If my keyboard is not compatible then it's wrong for you to say that it will work with most keyboards, it's very misleading. I feel very disappointed that it don't work because there are hundreds of sounds which are difficult to control whilst playing, this idea/concept is amazing being that the sounds are accessible at a glance. Also, there are no connection instructions for the config area for this particular part of the bundle, only the midi designer which I don't have or want, I've found this difficult to explain but I hope you understand what I mean. Hope you can help me.
