MIDI Designer with a Roland Octapad?

Hi.
I want to use MIDI Designer to control my (new) Roland SPD-20 Pro Octapad but I'm having a bit of a brain fart trying to visualize how this might work. I want to assign sounds to the pads, add fx and control all the parameters from MD.
Is this even possible with MIDI Designer? I haven't seen anyone approach any of the Roland drum modules in the forums here so far, so I wondered if there was a reason for it....

Details:
There are 8 pads per kit on the unit itself, plus 4 external trigger inputs + HiHat controller pedal
2 sounds can be layered per pad (Main and Sub) on both internal and external pads
There are 200 user programmable kit spaces available internally
900 instruments available (with control over Volume Curve, Coarse Tune, Fine Tune, Pedal Bend, Decay, Output,
Layer EQ, Pad compression, Pad Mute Group, Pad Link) and MIDI Out Note assigning.
3 FX are available per kit patch (from 38 FX options), with 2 assignable per instrument with level sends
1 Master FX ("Ambience) per kit comprised of 5 reverb choices

Roland has issued all of the MIDI specs needed as far as I'm aware (and I've attached the .pdf in case anyone wants to see what's available via MIDI/SYSEX)

What do people think?
It's soooo slow trying to work with the 2 line LCD screen on it and scrolling through everything.

Wired connection Windows <-> iPad

I need to remove my reliance on Wifi for use on stage. I need a wired connection between iPad and PC.

Following a search I tried musicIO, but it's unreliable and has caused some horrendous crashes. Looking at the last time it was updated I also wonder if it has been abandoned by its developer.

I don't want to have to use another piece of hardware, if I can avoid it. I have an old Behringer is202 iPad dock, but it's bulky, it doesn't have a lightning connector (I have to use an adaptor and prop the iPad up in the tray) and my PC refuses to see it from a USB connection.

Ideally I'd just use a lightning/USB cable.

What are others using?

Anyone have a setup for Electro-Harmonix V256 Vocoder?

The V256 can be controlled remotely via midi CC and program change messages. Has anyone created a layout for it? I doubt I could create one as beautiful as the examples I see here for other devices.

Being able to have a graphical user interface on an iPad would greatly speed up programming these powerful midi controllers. By design, they must be programmed/changed/set with footswitches and laboriously tapping different pads. No buttons, sliders or knobs.

and looked similar to the functions of JD-Xi. I routed midi to my PC and with midi translator pro I did the following rule

These are the first 17 waveforms. The last digits ,before F7 are checksums? Because selecting roland's or Axe checksums I can't transmit these values.

Could someone help me here?

Also I have a question regarding the app. Is it possible to batch edit and replace

hello, my name is Patrick and i am an audio and projection designer working at University of Florida and i am interested in creating template for my synths. I have several that i would like to try to create for but i am interested in finding out if people have created templates for:

1.) TX81Z
2.) Waldorf Rocket
3.) Moog Minitaur
4.) Meeblip Anode
5.) Korg Volca [Keys, Beats and Bass]
6.) Korg Monotribe [modified] -- i midified mine with a mod

I also have a DSI Mopho, A waldorf Blofeld and Moog Slim Phatty which i have already found templates here for. I just went Pro so i am hoping to collaborate on some fun designs and i look forward to interfacing with you all

Fantom XR is yet a powerful tool, maybe more than actual Integra-7 tool, and it is quite common to have it in our set. Unfortunately since it is a small rack synth, it is very uncomfortable to manage all settings from its few knobs. A template would be really appreciated!!!

A button that triggers other buttons one after each other. I'm working on a patch which can easily scroll through scenes in a sampler. Also a correction button would be nice. A -1 (one scene backwards) button for the case you hit the NEXT button to early.

Is this possible in midi designer?

Firstly, I'm blown away by this program. I just got it set up with my alpha juno last night and I can't say enough good things.

I'm considering buying an Ensoniq ESQ-1, and everything I've read seems to say that these don't play nice with 3rd party controllers. Just wondering if anyone has tried implementing Midi Designer with this synth and failed/triumphed?

And thank you for your wonderful work. The template is working fine for me so far, even though i'm a newbie with Midi Designer.

My question is related to an already asked one but i'd like to understand why it's not possible to replicate a program's parameter loaded from the MiniAk into Midi Designer. This can be a huge improvement. I understand that this is possible from a "Midi" perspective as some software based editors like Hypersynth MiniAk editor can do it and works via Midi. Apparently, there is the possibility to "Request" the patch parameters from the MiniAk into the Hypersynth editor (http://www.hypersynth.com/miniak-editor.html).

Here is the section regarding the "request patch" feature in their user manual :

Request patch loads a patch from specific Miniak Memory location into the editor. Program name and Category are stored in the patch. But a patch cannot be requested by its name, you must address it by program number and bank number (fig.1-1). When you change your synth presets, the synth automatically transmits the program and bank number out of its MIDI port. Editor receives this information and sets the bank/program number, Only thing you must do is to click on the request patch button. You can find request patch button in the tool bar under MIDI IN device selector (fig.1-1).

Request patch is done by using system exclusive messages “Sysex”. Sysex messages are usually used to transfer large amount of data between MIDI compatible audio gears. Patch name, category and all sound related parameters can be sent out from your synth in sysex format and editor will convert them to a *.syx file and save them in your HDD. The size of a standard Miniak sysex file that contains one program is 434 bytes. Larger files may contain multiple programs, bank or operating system firmware. Alesis ion and Micron programs are compatible with Miniak.

Is this a limitation that is coming from MidiDesigner or from the Template itself ? Does anyone knows if we can implement this in the Template ?

I think this will give us a consistent upgrade feature :)

Hi all -- just joined the forum.

I'm looking forward to using this app with different hardware, but I would especially like to use it with my Virus Snow, a powerful and portable synth that suffers from certain technical limitations:

As of right now, controlling the Snow the way Access has designed it requires a user to connect the synth to one of a limited number of supported DAWs and open its total integration (TI) software. This works well in theory but in practice there are frequent problems, and in any case the advantages of having a small, portable synth like the Snow are somewhat diminished by its interface being available under such limited circumstances.

A template permitting the parameters of the Snow (or other Virus models) to be controlled by an iPad would free the synth up for use anywhere ... potentially allowing it to be sequenced by another iPad app, which would completely free it from the studio.

I've got an sci six trak I bought new ages ago. Always found the interface a little funky, but fun. I learned about LFOs, oscillators and ADSR envelopes on an arp 2600. Now that I have kids, I'd like to give them the six trak and a good midi editor to play with/understand. It looks like MD may fill that need, but no idea how to implement it. I've an iPad 1 and the camera kit along with midi 1x1 tab from E-MU...now what?
