Latency question Midi designer and Ipad to Roland Fantom XR.

Question

I am using Midi Designer to send Program Change messages but find that the programs in my Roland Fantom XR do not change quite as quickly when using the App, as they do when I use a dedicated hardware unit to effect Program Change.

Both the midi designer App and the hardware device are sending messages using midi ( both midi cables are being fed into a midi merge unit ) and then into the Fantom.

I am using a generic 'camera adapter and a usb/midi cable' for outputting from my Mark I  Ipad.

I have previously used the same 'midi to usb adapter' cable from a keyboard into a laptop without experiencing latency, so I don't think it is a problem with the cable.

Let's diagnose this. Can we try routing the program change to the computer (via Wi-Fi or cable) and then get it to the Roland Fantom? There are a lot of ways to do this, but one hint is to use "live routings" on the MIDI Network Settings to send the prog changes onward.

The advantage to going through the computer, for diagnostic purposes, is that we can get a MIDI monitor to watch the whole thing.

Looking forward to pinpointing (and then resolving) the latency.
