Yamaha PSS480 and learning SYSEX to make a template

Summary: I have a Yamaha PSS480, a row operator FM synthesizer, which can be programmed more deeply via SYSEX

I wonder if I could use MD to create a template for my PSS480, like this Java program: www.facebook.com/PssWaveEditor. Can anyone help me get started? I have no idea how SYSEX works. I am perplexed after looking at pages 43-48 in the manual, available via this link: http://download.yamaha.com/search/product/?category_id1=16277&&product_id=1439517.
